Younger Division: May 15, 2010, On The Beam Vicious Vipers hosting Red Panthers The Red Panthers jumped to a big lead in the top of the first inning of their game against the Vicious Vipers with strong hitting by Eleven Thewlis, Hannah Morse, Jazmin Terry and Dixie Lewis, driving in 7 runs. In the bottom of the inning, defensive plays by Sarah Morse, Kate Henderson and Asia Brantley held the Vipers to two runs. Brantley, at first base, made two of the inning’s outs by scooping up grounders and beating the runners to the bag. In the bottom of the second inning, after being held to one run, the Red Panthers continued their strong defensive plays with Layla Souza making two single-handed outs at third and Delilah Whitaker snagging grounders and nailing throws to home and first—where Kira Holmberg was fearlessly going for the outs. Top of the third, Jazmin Terry, Lena Anderson
and Dixie Lewis led off with singles to load the bases. Hannah Morse
followed up with a slow grounder down the third base line. Terry outran
the throw to home plate making the first of four runs the Red Panthers would
get in their last at bat. Final score: Vicious Vipers 14, Red Panthers 12 Asia Brantley makes the out at first base. Photo by Jason Holmberg. From the other team reporter: After the first two Vicious Vipers reached base, MacKenzie Andrew ripped a line drive into left field for a hit, and repeated that feat in her next at-bat. In the fielding "play of the day," she pounced on a dribbler in front of the plate and made a long heave to Anya "Mighty Mite" Dangerfield at first, who hung on to record the out. MacKenzie later leapt up to grab a high hopper and got the unassisted force out at second base. In the bottom of the first, Zadie Jivan scooped up three grounders and recorded three unassisted outs at third base, and she also hit pitches to reach base twice. Hayley Martin showed amazing hustle and awareness to leg out a double to lead off the second (I think her dad was first base coach - good call, Dad!), and after choking up on the bat, she later got around on pitch for a base hit. Ellie Dischinger lined a pitch into left for a hit, and later snagged a grounder and threw home to Abigail Cain for a force out at the plate. Georgia "Peach" Tomasik wasted no time in hitting the first pitch in both of her at-bats for base hits.

But Blue Jay Cleo Tufts-Lockhart tagged a Blue Trouble out at first, Kelly Perymon and Seraphina Joseph took two more out at third, and when Blue Jays came up to bat again, Rachel Kaufman slammed a double, bringing two happy teammates home to roost.
5/15/10 Dr. Brehnan’s Lean Mean Little Ladies (Home) versus the Five Little Monkeys Chocolate Chickens (Visiting) Today’s game between the Lean Mean Little Ladies (“LMLL”) and the Chocolate Chickens (“CC”) took place under sunny skies. As the game got underway, the CCs got a strong center drive by Elisabeth Wing and a 1st base hit by Kira Galbraith. Abby Sanchez drove a great hit but was forced out at 1st base by LMLL’s Anjali Pinney. The LMLL had an exciting 1st inning with two doubles by Maddie Kaneko and Caroline Hall! The second inning quieted down with intense concentration on both sides. Suddenly, the CC’s hit a nice surprise flyball off the tee to center field for a secure double. Helen Ross hit a strong ball over the third baseman's head to be safe at first base. Aimee Chi hit a ball to the infield landing her a single. And Aaliyah Kelley hit a grounder to the second baseman getting her comfortably on first base. Great fielding by LMLL Megan Molkenbuhr resulted in tagging out a CC runner at 3rd base. Piper Carlstroem ended the inning with a nice hit to 1st base. On the defensive side Elizabeth Wing in left center stopped a strong ball and made a quick throw to the second base player, Elke Saaf to get the runner out. The excitement built up in the third inning. The LMLLs showed some great fielding with a nearly successful double play by Maddie Kaneko and a super catch by LMLL’s shortstop, Sumaiyyah El-Safy who fielded the ball to 3rd base for another out. It was an excellent game that demonstrated that the girls are steadily improving their skills every week!

At the top of the second inning, Rebel's Isabel Magid-Kutlin's hits a line drive up third base for a single, but the Rebels end the inning scoreless.
