Dr. Brehnan’s Lean Mean Little Ladies and the On The Beam’s Vicious Vipers

It was a beautiful spring day and the game was on!  Visiting Vicious Vipers took the field as Abigail Cain started the game off with a nice line drive.   In the bottom of the first inning, great fielding by the Vipers’s Hayley Martin resulted in a forced out at third base.  The Vipers attacked again with a forced out at home plate in a great play, and a runner forced out at second base to close out the first inning, two great pick-ups by Mackenzie  Andrew.  The Lean Mean Little Ladies (“LMLL”) returned fire in the second inning, with a terrific play by LMLL Pitcher Hannah Lane-Goldstein to Caroline Hall at first base.  Then, two VV runners were tagged out by the LMLL Pitcher on their way to first base.  The third inning showed increased fielding skills on both teams.  The LMLL Pitcher Lucy Ihnken made two great plays throwing the ball to Catcher Emily Federspiel at home plate.   On a nice cut by her teammate, Megan Molkenbuhr ran two bases and made it home!  Zadie Jivan threw a strong ball to Georgia Tomasik to get an out.  And one of the best parts of the game is the post-game high-fives for the two teams to thank each other before we go home!

Moneyballer Red Panthers 3, Nest Egg Blue Jays 19

The Blue Jays hit the ground running:  Cleo Tufts-Lockhart, Elizabeth Schafer, Lillie Benson, and Sophie Rodriguez-Bell batted singles that brought the first two players home, followed by doubles by Emma Chamberlin and Allison "Allie" Hersh that brought home three more.  Red Panther fielders worked against the onslaught, with strong defensive plays by Eleven Thewlis and Layla Souza.  Sophie Gilbert, working 3rd base, stopped a grounder and tagged the base to make an out.
The Red Panthers then took up the bats, with a team effort by Delilah Whitaker, Sarah Morse, and Asia Brantley putting them on the scoreboard.  Blue Jays defense worked quickly, however: pitcher Allie Hersh caught the first ball hit, and Grace Schafer Perry soon tagged two more out at first.
Blue Jays Allie and Grace didn’t stop there, though; they both also slammed out powerful outfield hits in both the second and third innings, which were held to doubles by the fielding work of Panthers Sarah, Layla, Asia, and Jazmin Terry. Red Panther Asia's throwing arm also played a decisive role in getting a second inning out, throwing to catcher Layla.
Up again, Red Panthers Sophie Gilbert, Kate Henderson, and Camille Lussier loaded the bases, and Hannah Morse and Layla drove in the runs.  In their second inning defense, Blue Jays pitcher Rachel Kaufman threw to catcher Avielle "Avi" Sherman for two outs at home.
As the two teams batted their third inning, both teams' defensive play had warmed up, with infielders Camille and Sarah (the latter playing first base) teaming up to make two outs, and Asia catching an outfield hit for the third.  Third inning Blue Jay defense was swift and definitive, making three outs in a row after just one run.
