Saturday’s game showed the Purple Crushers and Lean Mean Little Ladies (“LMLL”) to be very well matched.  The first inning showed each team getting batters to base and able to score outs at bases.  A smart play at the bottom of the first inning was Madeline “Maddie” Kaneko of the LMLL tagged the Crushers’ runner out at second base.  In the second inning, LMLL batter Sabina Dobbert hit a clean cut straight down the center.  The Purple Crushers returned fire, with a solid play getting a LMLL runner out at second base.  By the bottom of the second inning, things were heating up.  The PC’s Skye Frank sprinted to first base just ahead of the LMLL’s throw, and made it all around the bases coming home on a mighty swing by batter Anya Chytrowski.  The third inning started off with nice cuts by Eliana Rosen-Bloom and lefty Sonya Love.  Jayne Frank followed suit with a base hit and bases were loaded!  By the bottom of the third inning, LMLL fielding was coming on strong with a string of great plays by the LMLL’s.  Shortstop Hannah Lane-Goldstein and third base Lucy Ihnken were in splendid form towards the end of the game, getting several runners out at third base.  Anna Lamb at first base neatly caught a field play and brought a great game to a close!

Quick thinking (and even quicker footed) Rebel Hannah Murray tagged up back to first base--safe! In the second inning, Rebel Amelia Galbraith blasted a hard drive down the third base line for a double; teammate Esther Karpilow did likewise--does that make that a double double? At the top of the fourth, Rebel Anna Reed speared a line drive for an out at first. In the fourth inning, Poison Ivy Claire Kaneko pitched beautifully, giving up no runs. The Poison Ivy rallied for an especially strong fifth inning, with awesome singles by Lucy Mowry and Rory Bayer-Nadel. Rockin Robins Prins Chiropractic vs. The Robinson McNally Tigers

The Rockin’ Robbins had only 8 players instead of their usual 12. First Inning, Sarah is up, but strikes out...ouch, too bad. Kaili is next up at bat, hits a double! Go Kaili! Glenna, who was unfortunately hit in the head by a ball during warm up, shook it off and was next at bat, but struck out. Kaili steals third, woo hoo! Tara gets a base hit, and Kaili makes it home. Lena is next up at bat, she hits the ball, she’s running, but the pitcher picked up the ball and threw it to the first before Lena got there. Ooohh, so close! But, alas, she was out. :(

Second Inning, No hits, No runs, No errors for both the Tigers and the Rockin’ Robbins!

Third Inning. Tigers are up. No one was more surprised than Delaney herself when she caught a ball on the fly, and it was the third out as well!

Sarah is up, but oohh, strikes out. Kaili gets a base hit again! Unfortunately, Glenna’s head is hurting and drops out of the game. Tara gets a base hit. Lena gets a single base hit and advances to second. Woo hoo ! Rocky used her awesome bunting skills and got a base hit. Unfortunately, Tara was on third and ran home but was tagged out. At the same time, Lena made an amazing slide to third. Ivy struck out, the game was over.

Final Score: Tigers 4, Rockin’ Robbins 2. Maybe next time Rockin’ Robbins!
